Alphabet Info
1. How are alphabet sets measured?
Every alphabet set is lined up straight in a row (as shown in picture). The ‘height’ is taken from the tip of the tallest letter(s), to the bottom of the lowest letter(s).
2. What size should I buy?
Measure the area you are wanting to fill and find your ‘useable/workable’ space. For an example…. You have a workable space of 2” ….meaning, when the letters are lined up, you do not want any part of your letters to exceed a 2” area…. Then choose size 2” …….*This does not mean the letters are 2”….. but more so means no matter what combination of letters you choose (like j or k), your words will not exceed the 2” size. Note: All fonts VARY in sizes…. But usually the CAPITAL letters are semi-close to the given size. However, the lowercase have very different sizes from one another, due to their stems. Due to the lower stem of a ‘j’ and the upper stem of a ‘k’ … this makes other letters seems much smaller, like the ‘a’. (as shown in picture). ….Thus, the smaller the stems of a certain font… the closer all the letters will be in size. When you have a stem jutting down low or high…. It unfortunately makes all the other letters seem smaller. **When choosing an alphabet set, the size chosen will not necessarily be the size of the letters, but will simply fit within that size area.**
3. I want to buy matching UPPER and LOWER alphabet sets…. Which sizes are proportionate to each other?
In most cases, you are going to buy matching sizes. Example, if you buy a 2” Uppercase Set… usually you will purchase a 2”Lowercase Set. The lowercase will not be too large, as the lowercase has tall and low stems (naturally giving the affect that they look ‘smaller’) …. It can be a bit confusing…. SO, to make it easy, check out the description on the set you are interested in and it tells you which matching size to buy.
